Why I specialize in trauma
I specialize in trauma work because it hits close to home for me. Growing up in a household where domestic violence and addiction were present, I experienced firsthand what it means to live with trauma and trauma symptoms. Through seeking my own trauma-focused treatment, I came to know the power of the healing that can happen in therapy. That's a big part of why I'm so passionate about this work, and why I believe in it the way I do.
How I create a safe, supportive environment
When you first start working with me, expect those first one or two sessions to be about getting to know each other. I'll be curious about who you are, what brings you in, and how I can best support you, and we'll co-create a collaborative, safe space, which matters especially in a virtual setting. Something unique about how I work is that I look at trauma and its generational effects. During intake, I take my time to explore what trauma means and how it's shown up for you, and whether there's a connection across the generations of your lineage. It can be really helpful to see how people in our histories coped with trauma, and how that connects to how we work toward healing now. From there, we'll build treatment plans together, which might include breathwork, body movement, and somatic work. The body keeps the score when it comes to trauma, so awareness and release matter.
What I want to help members see in themselves
However you've been coping with everything you've been through, you've been doing it in the best way you knew how, and that took real strength. I want to help you see that in yourself. And the fact that you're even here, looking for another form of support, tells me a lot about your courage.
My message to you if you are struggling right now
You're not alone. Whatever you've been carrying, you don't have to carry it by yourself anymore. I'm here whenever you're ready, and you're not alone in this journey.

Cultural competencies

I've worked with people from many different communities and backgrounds, and I believe it's essential to stay aware of what's happening within them, especially for marginalized communities like LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC members. That means keeping up with legislation, evolving terminology, and the issues affecting people around the world. I know it's impossible to understand everything about every community, so I do my own research and education to better understand my members. And when there's something I don't know, I've found the best approach is curiosity and getting to know each other. I want my members to know I'm aligned with them, and I'm here to support them.
