- Why I specialize in trauma
- I've specialized in treating trauma and PTSD with Prolonged Exposure because it works. It really is the gold standard, and I've been privileged to be part of this journey with people for over 10 years. I've watched people who never thought they could talk about the thing that happened to them leave in an entirely different place. I have experience working with members who have been through the full range of trauma experiences, including working deeply with Active Duty Service Members, Veterans, and first responders.
- How I create a safe, supportive environment
- I know it can feel uncomfortable, even unsettling, to meet a new therapist and start this work. Especially when we're talking about trauma. So we'll take our time at the beginning. I want to get to know you and what your goals are, and we'll go at your pace. I check in at least every week to ask whether we're on the right track, whether we're hitting your goals, and whether we're missing anything. This is your treatment, and I want you to get out of it what you actually need, not what anyone else thinks should happen.
- What I want to help members see in themselves
- Everybody is different, and different types of trauma affect people differently. Early on, we'll explore how your experience has shaped things for you, how long ago it happened, and what kind of trauma it was, and then we'll figure out which approaches fit you. Some people need a little more patience and understanding. Others tell me they need a push. I'll spend time at the start getting to know which one you are, so I can show up the way that's most helpful. I want this to be a space that's affirming and culturally responsive, where you feel safe, respected, and understood. You are the expert here, and I'm learning your experiences alongside you.
- My message to you if you are struggling right now
- There is hope, and you're in the right place. Maybe you've been dealing with this a long time. Maybe you've been to multiple people and tried this before. This will be different. People can and do recover from PTSD. It's more than possible. I'm here to support you along the way, including between sessions if you need to reach out. I'm so proud of you for taking this step, and I want this for you.
